Cover-Ups

Almost no matter what you have tattooed on your body, as long as it is not badly scarred or just solid black, we can cover it up. Some examples include, but are not limited to: Backyard / home tattoo’s, ex-wives/husbands/boyfriends/girlfriends names, stretch marks, skin blemishes, poorly done tattoo’s or even just a change in taste! There are many common misunderstandings about cover up work that have people keeping old junky tattoos that they dislike even when they don’t have to. There are two ways we can help with your old tattoo. The first is redoing an old tattoo to make it look new again, and the other is completely changing what you originally had with a new image or design.

When you have an old, faded tattoo, even if it was solid black, you can make it look as if it was just done and perfect. A nice sharp outline will give any tattoo new life, and help clean up any blurring of the old outline into the surrounding skin. The old faded black can be redone with black on top of it, and depending on how faded it is, colour can be a good way to add more life. Colour can cover black, despite the common myths that nothing but more black will. Sometimes giving the redone tattoo a coloured background to really make it stand out also adds to the new look.

If you need to get a tattoo covered, as many people unfortunately do, it can be done. The main guidelines to changing a tattoo from one design to another are:

    • You need to change the focal point of the new tattoo away from the old focal point.
    • You need to be working on a tattoo that is fully healed and not badly scarred.
    • Any scarring needs to be back to light pink (If you are unsure, ask us!)

These guidelines gives us room to trick the viewers eye into looking at a new focal point, and taking their eye away from certain points of the old tattoo that need to be covered. If your first tattoo has large amount of dark shading, a new bright focal point will be made to attract attention there. This is why making the tattoo a bit bigger is usually necessary. As stated earlier, colour can cover black in certain situations, and this can help so much when trying to give dimension to a new tattoo.

Remember that this new tattoo might take more than one sitting in order to be finished. Some cover-ups are done in layers, in order to fully blend the ink of the new one into the skin and ink of the old. It is also crucial to make sure you choose a design/image this time that you can live with for life (or we can design one for you), as a second cover up will be much more difficult to “Cover Up”.

FAQ

Have you ever had a question about getting a piercing or some tattoo work done but you’ve been too afraid to ask?

Well now is your chance to read up on what everybody else has been asking!

Will it hurt?

This question is asked more than any other when it comes to tattoos. Yes, even more than “How much?”

The answer is, “Yes.”

Quite literally we are stabbing you thousands of times a minute with multiple needles. Of course, it hurts!

Now before you go getting all freaked out, keep in mind that thousands of people every day get tattoos, and they all survive. If done correctly, a tattoo should feel more like a burning sensation. It can be described as what it feels like to be scratched by a cat. Different areas of the body can hurt more than others and sensitivity can even vary in small areas.

A good test is to drag your fingernail across your skin, it will tell you how sensitive the area is and how it will differ from other areas. A pinch of skin between your fingernails can give you and idea of how much pain you will feel. Different people have different pain tolerances, but most tattooists can help you deal with that pain. Always remember, listen to your tattooist, he’s done this before and he’s probably learned a thing or two.

How long will a tattoo take to heal and what care should be taken?

Tattoos take approximately seven days to heal & during this time you do have to follow certain instructions, keep the tattoo clean, avoid swimming and sunburn.

A light scab may form and under no circumstances are you allowed to pick at it. We recommend Numb Skull cream for aftercare but you must wash your hands with antibacterial soap before applying the cream.

What is the age limit for Tattooing?

The age limit on tattooing is 18 years. No exceptions.

Do you have to make an appointment?

No. Whilst walk-ins are more than welcome we do advise to make an appointment as we can often be very heavily booked.

Can I have something designed for me?

Designing original artwork specifically for you is what we do, if you have a general idea or two of what you have in mind bring it in to us and we can work on it for you.

Having a place to start is easier but if not our artists do have amazing imaginations so feel free to come in and have a chat.

Can you supply me with copies of the artwork so I can think about it?

No, we spend a great deal of money buying the rights to the art and if we allowed it to leave the studio it could be used elsewhere.

PRICING

Our minimum price is $100.00 and our hourly rate is $150.00 for standard work (Tribal work is $200 p.h.) . The cost of a tattoo is calculated on how long it takes and the complexity of the design. Smaller pieces are individually quoted.
